Fodly legal
Privacy Policy
Effective July 25, 2026
Fodly is designed to explain how a meal may fit into a low-FODMAP diet. This policy describes the information Fodly processes, why it is needed, and the choices available to you.
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to the Fodly iOS application and the public pages at fodly.xfoundry.ai. “Fodly,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the operator of the Fodly service.
Fodly provides general educational information. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
2. Information we process
Account information
When you create an account, we process information such as your name, email address, profile image, authentication provider, and a unique account identifier. Authentication and account management are provided by Clerk. If you choose Apple or Google sign-in, that provider also processes the information needed to authenticate you.
Meal photos and scan results
When you scan a meal, the selected photo is sent securely to our backend and to Anthropic’s Claude API to identify likely foods and ingredients. Our backend does not intentionally save the photo after completing the request. Under Anthropic’s standard API retention policy, API inputs and outputs may be retained for up to 30 days, subject to Anthropic’s policy exceptions.
Fodly stores your scan history, including meal photos and results, locally on your device so you can review it later. You can remove individual scans from History. This local history is not synced to a Fodly server.
Usage and technical information
We use your Clerk account identifier and a daily scan count to enforce the free scan allowance. The allowance data is stored using Upstash. Our hosting and infrastructure providers may also process standard network and diagnostic information, such as IP address, request time, device or browser information, and error logs, to operate and secure the service.
Settings and feedback
Preferences such as Strict mode are stored locally on your device. If you contact support or send feedback, we process the email address, message, and any other information you choose to include.
3. How we use information
- Provide meal analysis and display scan results.
- Create, authenticate, and manage your account.
- Apply the daily scan allowance and prevent misuse.
- Maintain security, diagnose errors, and improve reliability.
- Respond to support requests and feedback.
- Meet legal obligations and protect our rights and users.
4. Service providers and disclosures
We disclose information only as needed to operate Fodly, comply with law, protect safety and rights, or complete a business transaction. Current service providers include:
- Clerk — authentication and account management. Clerk Privacy Policy
- Anthropic — AI processing of meal photos and analysis requests. Anthropic Privacy Policy
- Vercel — hosting and backend infrastructure. Vercel Privacy Policy
- Upstash — storage of per-account scan allowance data. Upstash Privacy Policy
- Apple or Google — only when you choose that provider to sign in.
We do not sell personal information. Fodly does not include third-party advertising or use meal photos for targeted advertising.
5. Retention and deletion
We retain account information while your account is active and as needed for legitimate operational, security, and legal purposes. Daily allowance records expire or are replaced as the allowance window resets. Support communications may be kept as needed to resolve your request and maintain business records.
You can delete your Fodly account from Settings → Profile → Manage profile & sign-in methods → Security → Delete account. You can also email us for help. Account deletion removes the account information controlled by Fodly, subject to limited legal or security retention. Scan history stored on your device can be deleted in the app or removed by deleting the app.
6. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. You may update account details and sign-in methods in the app. To make another privacy request, contact us using the address below. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.
You control camera and photo-library access through iOS Settings. Fodly only receives a photo when you choose to capture or select one for analysis.
7. Security and international processing
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, including encrypted network connections. No service can guarantee absolute security. Fodly and its providers may process information in the United States and other countries where privacy laws may differ from those in your location.
8. Children
Fodly is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Fodly changes. We will post the revised policy here and update the effective date. If a change is material, we will provide additional notice when required by law.
